We have a customer who has some software written in Abal++ which interacts with the Criteria Database.

Our customer had a hard disk crash and we had to reinstall the entire system. We copied the WEXA / CRITERIA and a Data folder which we found under the root of the previous installation and managed to get it working after installing the Criteria service with the Criteria.exe -i command.

This has been working fairly well, but now our customer would like to be able to access his program from another computer as well. He says he's been able to do this before.

Does anyone have any ideas how Criteria is supposed to be configured to allow this? Or do we need some special configuration on the client computer?

Note: our customer doesn't have any install disks, so if it's possible to do it without them it would be appreciated.

just check the criteria version
when you type "criteria.exe" it will display some information

Take care, the 3.5 version is a old one
i suppose you have a local criteria version(personnal)

you need a multi user criteria version
3.5 version is stop since a long time now
3.8 is the actual version

if your application is in texte mode no problem
but if this application use screener, take care
with 3.5 version you use wexa 22.a i think

criteria 3.8 use wexa 3.x now
wexa 3.x dont work with screener 2.1 ou 3.1
in this case you have to rebuild the application with screener 3.2 package

CODE
Open Criteria Client Server for NT      5 connexions
Version 3.5a
Environnement Version 1.1a
Copyright © 1994,99 Prologue Software
This is the result I get when I run criteria.

I am aware that this is an old version, but so is the program that uses it (it is indeed text only). The WEXA version is 1.1a.

The client computer will be Windows XP as well. According to our customer this has worked before.

I looked at your link and I'm getting the same errors this person is having. After that WEXA shuts down again.

If you just copy the old forder its not an installation

I'm not sure whether it's the same Service Pack on the Windows XP computer. It probably isn't since we updated the new computer completely and the old one probably wasn't up to date.

We did just copy the CRITERIA folder since we don't have the floppy disk / CD anymore. This seems to work out fine for the computer that has the files on its machine physically. We only had to run "CRITERIA.EXE -i" to install the database service and copied the contents of the old win.ini into the new win.ini. We can't get it to work on the client computer however which we connected through a shared folder.

If you're telling me we can't get this to work without the installation disk, then at least I'll know what to tell the customer.

At the moment there are a few errors we're getting. Depending on what I try. If I install the CRITERIA service on the client as well as on the server and try running the ABAL program from the share, it'll eventually give an error 40 when trying to open a data file.
But I'm guessing this is not the way to go about things as I think this will install two database servers, once of which is trying to access files on a share.
I think what I need to do is tell the client computer how to connect to the database server. But how to do this I haven't found out yet.
When I try to run ABAL on the client computer without the criteria-service installed it gives me the following errors however:
* CRITENT.DLL: connexion impossible au Service CRITERIA.EXE
followed by
* DLL de méthodes d'accès incorrecte ou impossible (E:\CRITERIA\CRITENT.DLL)

You must have a computer that will be see as the server that will run the criteria service
and crinet service for the network access
on the other computer you have to install the criteria client for windows
without the criteria CD or floppy i think you have a trouble
